This is an independent musical interpretation of "The Mill & the Cross", the recent film by  Polish filmmaker and video artist Lech Majewski based on the 1564 masterpiece painting "The Way to Calvary" by Pieter Bruegel the Elder. There are several pieces on the soundtrack but most of the soundtrack is focusing on my own Heirmos for SATB soloists, SATB choir, oboe, and chamber ensemble. All the music is from a recording by the English Chamber Choir called The Byzantine Legacy (http://www.englishchamberchoir.com/store.html). It is amazing that, even in the midst of the ongoing debate about intellectual property  and the fact that probably both the film and the music have been used without permission, I feel that this is capturing better than anything that I could have imagined the deeper layers of the music of my first choral work, Heirmos (1994). As the week in which the Christians among us commemorate Christ's passion nears, I can't help but feel very grateful to this anonymous artist who decided to establish a connection between these different works. I, for one, can't wait to go and see the film with its original soundtrack intact in the theatres when it comes to Toronto. This is very moving: Thank You . . . whoever you are.
